A Mac is a good choice. You can get a pretty damn good on for $2k and you can install Windows on it for games so it's basically a win win. No viruses and games. Who wouldn't want that?
Kyle Jonesposted 167 days ago
Macs have viruses, don't kid yourself. Again, underhanded advertising from Apple.
Ron Bischofposted 167 days ago
Computer virus: A piece of code that is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data.

Please provide a list a self-replicating Mac OS X viruses in the wild. Actually, I'd be satisfied with one.

And please don't construct a straw man, i.e. that I'm asserting it's not possible. It is, it just hasn't occurred, which was your assertion.
Kamran Sarkarposted 166 days ago
Ron Bischof

Here are the lists of reasons why I would never choose a mac.

1. Mac has a small number of users compared to the giants out there.
2. It is not a computer rather trying to portray themselves as a 'style icon'.
3. While they look good, hardly there's any use when you're comparing versatility of a Windows platform.
4. They have a set number of people who hardly knows anything about computers however worships mac for being the 'God' of computers.

You fall in the last category.

I understand the programmers point of view. Why would I want to build something using my intelligent brains which is in use by what - a 9% of the population?

i'd rather go for the bigger picture here. And hence all the virus that you get is for windows.

And for you as well - Apple was sinking deep before Microsoft came and helped them out. Only then they started to rise again.

And macs cant play games. They're again, NOT a computer. An expensive child's playt
Datan0deposted 166 days ago
Macs are child's playthings because they "don't play games"? #LogicFail
As for the rest:
1) Argumentum ad populum
2) Absurd. A Mac is, in fact, a UNIX workstation. To confuse Apple's superb industrial engineering and slick marketing with a lack of functionality is both absurd and ignorant.
3) I'll concede that there's a wider range of hardware configurations for PCs, but if that's your sole criteria then Linux beats both Windows and MacOS hands down.
4) I wrote my first program on a Sinclair ZX-80 in 1980, first used a Mac in 1984, and have used PCs since 1986. I've worked in IT for a decade and a half, have been building PCs since 1995, and first installed Slackware Linux that same year. I use, build, repair, service, and maintain Windows, Linux, and Apple machines every single day. Each platform has its advantages, but overall Macs are so far ahead of Windows and Linux that, IMHO, the fact that this debate is even happening at all is laughable. Go play your video games. I've got work to do.
anniaposted 164 days ago
I love your very logical explanation for this unreasonable debate. I begun with PC, but once I discovered Mac I would never go back! Unfriendly and very masculine machine these PCs.

That said, I keep a PC handy as a curiosity and a Windows XP/Ubuntu netbook for lounging around wasting time replying to comments from illogical ill informed illiterate idiots such as yourself.
Kamran Sarkarposted 166 days ago
OSX/Oompa-A is one of the viruses.
Ron Bischofposted 166 days ago
Thank you for your evaluation of my technical skills. I always enjoy humor.

OSX/Oompa-A is a Trojan, is not self-replicating without user intervention , i.e. supplying Admin credentials. Which is why it never propagated widely.

Again, I refer you to the computer virus definition I helpfully provided.

http://www.oreillynet.com/sysadmin/blog/2006/02/trojan_or_worm.html

And thanks for resurrecting the 12 year old chestnut about MS "saving" Apple. No doubt the commitment to continue producing a Mac version of Office for 5 years assisted Apple by providing credibility while Apple reinvented itself under Jobs leadership, the real reason for their current dominance. But the $150M investment in non-voting stock hardly mattered. But it did provide some cover during Microsoft's DOJ antitrust investigation.

This will help you get current on your data:

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=microsoft+apple

Just for giggles, in the search string, substitute HP, Intel, Dell, Sony & IBM for Microsoft. I believe you'll find it illuminating to compare Apple to the "giants".

Oh, and one more thing: Apple is the largest purveyor of digital music on the planet and has 100 million customer credit card numbers on file. Time to think beyond the box, Mr. "intelligent brains".

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2353011,00.asp

PS. Note that I support my assertions with 3rd party references. You, uh…don't.

Again, misinformation due to lack of diligence. Windows only. Per Wikipedia:

"The virus is written using Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting (VBS), and requires that the end-user run the script in order to deliver its payload. It will add a set of registry keys to the Windows registry that will allow the malware to start up at every boot.
The worm will then search all drives which are connected to the infected computer and replace files with the extensions *.JPG, *.JPEG, *.VBS, *.VBE, *.JS, *.JSE, *.CSS, *.WSH, *.SCT, *.DOC *.HTA with copies of itself, while appending to the file name a .VBS. extension. The worm will also locate *.MP3 and *.MP2 files, and when found, make the files hidden, copy itself with the same filename and append a .VBS extension.
The worm propagates by sending out copies of itself to all entries in the Microsoft Outlook address book. It also has an additional component, in which it will download and execute an infected program called variously "WIN-BUGSFIX.EXE" or "Microsoftv25.exe". This is a password-stealing program which will e-mail cached passwords."

Robb Lewisposted 167 days ago
well I'm not so sure most people would even understand how to install and manage a linux machine let alone even know what Ubuntu is. If you can afford a mac I'd go that way, good MB's with memory and common sw are around $1500. But if you want to spend less wait for windows 7 and go with a good quality brand like HP, Sony or Lenovo
Sung won Limposted 167 days ago
That was true about two or so years ago, but most of the major linux distributions today are more or less plug&play with graphical installation interface similar to that of win&mac (though it's still a bit rougher than both).

Agreed. We use Ubuntu as a handy web access, email and school homework machine.
ShayaanFposted 167 days ago
Use Ubuntu? Why? So I have access to the latest applications from 1985?

Linux in general is great, if you're using it for a server. It's not ready for the desktop yet, because you can't game on it (WINE sucks), you can't be productive on it (Photoshop? Premiere? Movie Maker?), and not all hardware works. Best of luck getting into usenet to find a driver for your weird wireless card.
Release Kingposted 167 days ago
Actually, Linux is way better. I am a freelance security analyst. Linux and Mac, both are descended from Unix. The programming is tight, and much more secure than windows. Windows base kernel itself is simply open. Open to all sorts of attacks. Only good thing abt it is softwre abundance. Rest, it is a real crap in the name of programming principles if you ask me. Mac has a real nice graphics engine. Linux, is well open source. but its suprisingly feature loaded seeing that it is free. It might even be the best.

mac is good. but it's got its own hiccups, thus making totally not worth its current pricing. and charging money for a service pack (snow leopard) is ridiculous. it's their fault that leopard was big and slow. and the video card will blow ur mbp away... literally. again, good but not that good.
NyxoLyno Cangemiposted 167 days ago
Correction ... Snow Leopard is an OPERATING SYSTEM ... not a service pack. In the time it's taken Microsoft to botch Vista, and promise something better (Windows 7) Apple has come out several MAJOR OS upgrades. I don't know about you, but when I get a computer, I don't want the company who supports it to take YEARS updating it.
Kyle Jonesposted 167 days ago
I'm fairly sure Leopard and Vista came out at the same time. Windows 7 and Snow Leopard are pretty close as well. Vista has gone through two Service Packs. While Apple has been dicking around with getting everything over to 64-bit with Snow Leopard and having quite a bit of trouble doing so, Windows has been running it since XP and Windows 7 runs 32-bit apps flawlessly. No, not partially; flawlessly. Microsoft had the foresight there.

As for graphics stacks, hate to break it to you all, but the highest-performing one is DirectX. Apple's is great and everything, but OpenGL has some catching up to do after progress stopped for a long period of time. Only now has it been revived because of Apple and the OSS community's prevalence.
Kyle Jonesposted 167 days ago
Oh and technically, Snow Leopard is still Mac OSX. 10.6. Vista was 6.0 an an entirely new codebase. Win7 is 6.1, but with the server kernel and an entirely revamped graphics subsystem.
Most Know Unknownposted 167 days ago
No, Snow Leopard is considered as an OS to Apple to make you pay for it but they even say its nothing big, just some changes here and there… That to me is a Service pack. AND what do you mean years updating it? Apple is always releasing updates as well. They even released their Snow Leopard with an old version of flash.

ShayaanFposted 167 days ago
I have to laugh at people who think Macs are more secure than Windows.

Read up about the Pwn2Own hacking competition -- Macs fall first EVERY YEAR. They are only secure because there's no profit to hack them -- because nobody uses them for business.

Tweet me back if you disagree :p
NyxoLyno Cangemiposted 167 days ago
Wouldn't that make them safer? Duh! If you're worried about auto theft, would you buy a car that's targeted by thieves?
Kyle Jonesposted 167 days ago
Macs are the fastest and easiest systems to compromise. No, that doesn't make them more secure. Windows has long been the most targeted because of its market share, but OSX is more targeted now because of a larger market share.
Ron Bischofposted 167 days ago
And Windows and Linux don't fall in Pwn2Own as well? Any OS will fail to a voluntarily clicked URL, physical access and social engineering.

As far as business use, I've been using an iMac as my primary system managing a $150M project for the last 2 years. An anecdote shouldn't be extrapolated globally, but you really need to be more careful about unsupported assertions.

How is a Mac overpriced if you can use it for nine years, then resell it for about 60% of it's purchase price? That's what I did with my original iMac. Bought it for $1,200, used it for nine years (ran like a champ and didn't really NEED to be replaced), sold it for $700. Additionally, it comes complete with a great suite of software applications, many of them rated as best of breed for consumer PCs, rather than trial crapware. Oh, and a Mac OS X version of Microsoft Office is available for purchase from Microsoft, which has been writing Mac software since its introduction in 1984.

MACS DO, have viruses but very little protection is recomended, and PC HAVE, many viruses but you should be fine with kyspersky running.

I have used both and there are things I like in each and hate in each so the Mac vs PC drama is so over-rated. It all depends on what you want to run, Mac users make it seem like using a Mac is the epitome of all things computing because it can also run Windows but what they wont tell you is that you need a license for Windows and all the Windows software you need to run as well as paying for the Mac, the Mac OS and any software you use on the Mac that you have to buy. it depends on your needs. If you need raw power and features, go with a pc. They are far more affordable for the hardware performance you get, plus Windows Seven is coming soon, and as a beta tester I can tell you it is very nice is pretty easy to use. It's a BIG improvement over XP and Vista, as it is now stable and now so demanding. But if you need a computer or laptop that just works all the time and you have no idea how to fix minor problems then definitely go with a mac. Just be aware that when you buy a pc you are paying for the hardware, when you get a mac you are paying for the ease of use.
Brandon Grahamposted 158 days ago
"When you buy a PC you are paying for the hardware"

So your telling me that if I buy an iMac and a Dell PC that the PC will have better hardware?
Oh yeah I forgot, the Intel Chips and Nvidia Graphics cards on the PC are better!
Too bad they are the same.
So if i buy a Mac then I get the same hardware, which handpicked by Apple, work better together, instead of like PC makers throwing any graphics card with just any processor and sell it as long as Vista will boot up, no matter the long term effects.
Jay Rooneyposted 166 days ago

It's more secure, more reliable, and costs less in the long run as it is so stable. Often the software in the short-term costs less too thanks the software bundles that Mac users get.

Apple states that their Macs do not get viruses and that is true a bit but if anyone with a mac has ever gotten a virus their computer is obsolete and needs to be serviced by mac not to include the lack of software. PC's on the other hand do get viruses but with a good firewall and anti-virus ( I suggest Kaspersky Anti-virus 2010) program you shouldn't have much to worry about. Plus if it crashes there are about 1 million more people to work on them. It's all pretty relative. But I still feel that Apple has overcredited itself. Having an OS that is directly tied to the hardware is not what I'd call awesome computing. I'd call it taking the easy way out.

M$ on the other hand, sells its OS and it can be used on almost any system in the world. No matter how much you hate M$'s policies, or whatever, this is a real OS.

Apart from that, Apple will charge you a lot more for less hardware (imagine the premium they're making per computer).

I hate windows, honestly, but I hate apple more. I'd suggest you to concentrate more on premium hardware, save money, and go for a better configuration than a macbook for a lesser price. If windows be it, let it be, but I'd still concentrate more on what I'm getting in return for my money. In my case, Dell won hands down.

I would recommend a Mac, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's light years ahead of Windows. I have used everything Microsoft from DOS 2.2 Circa 1985? to Windows XP/2003 and switched to Mac Leopard in early 2008. The difference is sort of like that between bronze, silver, and gold medalists at the Olympics. Windows probably gets the bronze, Ubuntu the silver, and Leopard the Gold. The differences are ultimately small, but very important. The single biggest reason I have found that I like the Mac is that it's roots are based on Unix (look it up if you're not a techie) and it doesn't have the concept of a program registry (at least not in the same way Windows does). Each time you install a piece of software, Windows gets slower and slower. Even if you remove the software, the performance hit remains. This is primarily because of the growth of the Windows registry, as removing software doesn't remove all of its registry entries. With a Mac, all of a piece of software is included within a "container" - when you delete software (with few exceptions) it's gone, period. As a power user, it was a regular thing for me to reformat my Windows machines once per year to clean them up and regain performance. Not so with my Mac. Additionally, I run VMWare on it and run Windows within VMWare for software that I can't get on the Mac side. I've had 5 VMWare instances all running different versions of Windows running simultaneously on my Macbook Pro and everything ran smoothly. As Apple likes to say, it just works!
Tannieposted 165 days ago
They're both Personal Computers, Apple seems like it costs more upfront, but there is added stuff on it. Microsoft is a little more tricky, you don't know what kind of upgraded software you need until you get it. And Macs are made for organization, iCal, it has a feature called expose that helps declutter space. Microsoft is suited for gamers, and people who likes square type screens. Of course there are more reasons, but that's something called research.

The basis of the Safari browser is webkit, originally began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE. In fact, it's being used as the basis for modern mobile web browsers on Smart Phones. Apple has released as open source and you can download the nightly builds here:

Furthermore, the core of Mac OS X is Darwin and is open source as well. Darwin integrates a number of technologies, most importantly Mach 3.0, operating-system services based on 4.4BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution), high-performance networking facilities, and support for multiple integrated file systems.

Would you like to play games and have mainstream programs? Also if you think it's great to hack in you own system and stuff, then go for windows.
Would you like a minimum of virussus and an operating system that works very naturally and nice ( + almost no crashes)? They you have to go for OSX. It's a very closed OS, so change anything in the system is difficult
Would you like a minimum of virusses, maybe adjust your system on your wishes and still don't Pay a lot of money for it? They you have to go for Ubuntu. Unfortunately, you have to search a bit for some programs, as the most mainstream programs don't work on Ubunu

What people dont realize is that Mac OS is build on Unix kernel might as well go for Linux and install Ubuntu ... its free and runs better than windows/macos
Ron Bischofposted 164 days ago
Mac OS X is built on the Mach microkernel and Unix from FreeBSD's and NetBSD's implementation of Unix that were incorporated in Nextstep, the core of Mac OS X.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mach_kernel

While various distributions of Linux may be downloadable to end users at no cost, they are not free. Billions have been spent by major corporations such as IBM, Oracle, Sun, HP, Red Hat, Novell, etc. extend and support Linux. Ubuntu was launched with funding from Mark Shuttleworth, who used a portion of his fortune from the sale of Thawte to VeriSign in 1999. He continues to fund the development of Ubuntu via Canonical Ltd. which issues and sells support for desktop and server versions.

Nothing is free, despite what you may read from FOSS advocates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_(operating_system)

Define "better". While most find Ubuntu 9.04 more reliable, easier to install and maintain than Windows XP SP3 (what the vast majority of Windows users are running), I can't say the same compared to Mac OS X 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard). And Mac and Windows have more sophisticated UI (user interfaces).
mlongacreposted 164 days ago
How much do you want to spend? With so much software moving to the net, the choice between MAC and MSFT isn't that big a deal any more, unless you have some other specific need. The more you spend, the more cool factor you get, but that's about all. Other than cost, the two main considerations are virus susceptibility on Windows boxes vs less available desktop software (ie games) on Apple, as discussed at length by other posters. I own a Mac that also boots Windows and about a dozen PCs including a netbook. The netbook gets the most use.
CK Tsuiposted 164 days ago
Both Mac and Windows excel in their own areas. Do you really need those Mac specific software? Ask yourself this, would you pay a premium price for a Mac or a significantly lower price for a PC that have the same specs or better? There isn't much a PC can't do vs a Mac, however, the story's different when it's vice versa. Compatibility is one issue and customization/adaptation is another biggie. I agree that Apple products have godlike designs but looks can only go so far. If you want to change your Apple system every year or 2 year, feel free to do so. I, for one, do not have that much disposable income to keep updated.
Ron Bischofposted 164 days ago
Define "compatibility". Please outline what consumer software categories aren't written for Mac OS X. With the exception of specialized vertical market software, I believe you'll find many business software segments covered as well. As the previous poster mentioned, with software moving to the cloud, this is becoming less relevant for common usage.

Most Mac users don't buy new systems every 1 or 2 years. And it's not just hardware specs. There's the OS and very valuable bundled software as well.
Donaven Staabposted 164 days ago

Apple is a fad and Jobs is a tool. It's only popular right now cause the success of iPod iPhone, but apple is starting to show their true colors again. If they can create a closed platform again they will, and when they do they will become irrelivant once again. Macs are way overpriced for same hardware you could get elsewhere. Software seems to be more expensive too compared to windows, unless you install a port from Linux, but if you going to run Linux software might as well save the money buy a bigger faster machine and just run Linux!
Ron Bischofposted 164 days ago
Amusingly, people, pundits and industry titans have predicted the failure of Apple for over 30 years. Here's some facts:

Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation that designs and manufactures consumer electronics and computer software products. The company's best-known hardware products include Macintosh computers, the iPod and the iPhone. Apple software includes the Mac OS X operating system, the iTunes media browser, the iLife suite of multimedia and creativity software, the iWork suite of productivity software, Final Cut Studio, a suite of professional audio and film-industry software products, and Logic Studio, a suite of audio tools. The company operates more than 250 retail stores in nine countries and an online store where hardware and software products are sold.[2]
Established in Cupertino, California on April 1, 1976 and incorporated January 3, 1977,[5] the company was called Apple Computer, Inc. for its first 30 years, but dropped the word "Computer" on January 9, 2007[6] to reflect the company's ongoing expansion into the consumer electronics market in addition to its traditional focus on personal computers.[7] Apple has about 35,000 employees worldwide[3] and had worldwide annual sales of US$32.48 billion in its fiscal year ending September 29, 2008.[4] For reasons as various as its philosophy of comprehensive aesthetic design to its distinctive advertising campaigns, Apple has established a unique reputation in the consumer electronics industry. This includes a customer base that is devoted to the company and its brand, particularly in the United States.[8] Fortune magazine named Apple the most admired company in the United States in 2008 and in the world in 2009.[9][10]

There are viruses on mac just very, very, very rare....plus if you want to upgrade a pc it will run you a nice sum of money just upgraded to snow leopard for $30 PC cant touch that

I'm not impressed with the new Snow Leopard OS, however, Win 7 shows vast improvement over Vista.

A Mac is a good choice, but so is Linux too. They are based on Unix which is far ahead of WIndows. At least Ubuntu and Fedora are nowadays much easier to install than Windows , and you get a working platform, not only a base operating system as with Windows, and hardly no risk for viruses.
Alex Holmposted 164 days ago
really better hardware will not decide a main OS release and that is the bottom line.
Brian leeposted 164 days ago
I am finding OSX to be Unix with a glossy front end bolted on and for everyday use Windows is leaps ahead and so damned easy to use which is why its a market leader i suppose.
Greg Fountainposted 163 days ago
To me, a Mac is like KDE, Gnome, etc. for Linux. It's a "skin" sitting on top of the shell. Mac people could care less what is under the hood or how it ticks. They just care about how pretty it is.
Ron Bischofposted 163 days ago
Your tweets indicate you may be attempting to create a hackintosh. Is that why you find Mac OS X difficult? You no doubt know it's not supported.

Just returned an iMac to a "qualified dealer" because the power supply failed. I've worked technically with computers for 12 years, and I'm not qualified to swap out a power supply? No, because Apple has made it so ridiculously hard to even get into an iMac to service it yourself. Never mind the fact that I had another iMac on the shelf I could've swapped hard drives with and continued work. Nope, had to send it. WTF!?

It's also funny how graphic artists are constantly rendering their Macs useless because of font conflicts. Fonts... making a PC useless. LOL. Please.

It will be funny when Macs do get a virus in the wild. No one will know what do to because they have heard that "Macs don't get infected" and haven't planned how to react. It's not if, but when.

I'm a PC, and WIndows 7 rocks! Been running the RTM since it was released to TechNet.
Ron Bischofposted 163 days ago
There are compromises involved in using a compact, all-in-one design. You did select the iMac form factor over a tower, correct?

And how's the Windows 7 networking issue working out for you?
Skyler Nelsonposted 163 days ago
People against apple are either in denial or have not tried one. Windows is garbage, I use windows all day at work along side my MBP. The PC is a quad core 8GB ram and runs SLOWER and has about 99.9% more glitches than my dual core 4GB ram MBP.

Furthermore people who say mac's are a toy or a play thing are plain ignorant. While a windows user prides himself on talking about how awesome his motherboard, processor, ram, video card, sound card, bla bla etc. is, I'm being productive getting actual work done, on a machine that actually works.

APPLE is the best ever! had like 2 Windows computers, all big pile of fail. Got a Mac Book Pro, fell in luv. The price is so worth it, because of the quality of the product. Great graphics, 7 hrs of battery instead of 2 and amazing tools for your work and creative side.
Tanya Medukhaposted 163 days ago
I did experience a few problems with my Mac, suck as only Windows compatible downloads and video-playing websites. Its not a problem, Mac can now run windows and leopard on the same platform. I luv the organization of everything and little apps you can download for the dashboard. Macs do get hundreds of viruses, but its compared to millions 4 windows. I can keep going about this, but the best computer is the one that has a glowing apple.
Ron Bischofposted 163 days ago
"Macs do get hundreds of viruses" Can you document that assertion? It's possible but inherently less likely in *nix based operating systems.
unpocodecasitodoposted 163 days ago

Macs are a very user friendly OS. you not need bother buying an antivirus as no one out there makes viruses for Macs. To add there are only a small limited PC games for Macs if you are a savvy PC gamer i'ts not for you unless you have 2 different systems!
But in preference I much prefere the new Microsoft Windows 7, the OS after Vista & after XP. I am currently using it and have been now for a few months, the avaluation version that is. It's way better than Vista and Xp by far! very stable! Allthough, you will still need an antivirus becasue the OS is maded by Microsft so therefor there will be plenty of viruses to watch ot for! But I love it and its also great for games!

yes macs can get viruses but only if you are using an admin account and installing some seriously shifty things on you system. If you arent doing that then macs are the nicest systems around. I got a mac min running Snow Leopard AND Windows 7 RC, its the best of both worlds so to speak.

What are you going to use it for Gaming Go Windows, CAD still go Windows, But if you are going to use it for multimedia MAC is the way. Pay the Premium and get iphoto to organize for Photos, imovie for video editing, the burn with idvd and share with itunes and an iphone or send straight to youtube from imovie. Then watch a movie or tv show you downloaded in itunes thru front row or send it to ur apple tv from ur Airport

Remember how much you will spend on Media Programs that don't come standard on Windows and the $300-$400 Windows 7 update.

Oh and i forgot about boot camp which turns your mac into a PC which gives u the best of both worlds...

Go by these words, IN THE LONG RUN A PC WILL COST MORE THAN A MAC!!

Proof: Microsoft Office 2007 is only a trail version, retail cost just for the Student Edition is $149, Macs come with iLife (Full Version): http://www.apple.com/ilife/ and iWork, alternative to Microsoft Office, is only $79 dollars. You will end up buying more for the PC.

Also, when I bought a Dell, I went ahead and reinstalled the OS. Mostly to get rid of all the crap trial software they put on the system when shipped so Microsoft is more of a hassle company, no matter what anyone here says, Microsoft WILL definitely kill your nerves and make you lose your hair, trust me, I know.

People say Macs are for ease of use. True, because apple developers are obviously not stupid. Compare things like the simplicity of finding something on a MAC with spotlight compared to that crappy start search in Windows (so crappy slow and sometimes doesn't find things that i typed even when its the exact name of the file). Menus are a lot simpler in OS X than in Windows. Programs opening speeds are cut in half in OS X. Internet Explorer compared to the MAC version of Safari is a laughable comparison compared to speed, just go away Explorer, Quit trying.

Also, look at the differences in the two companies website for further purchases of which ever company you choose. Microsoft-talk about clutter, spread your graphics and words out a bit, take some of the press release crap off and quit trying to prove to the public that your better than apple, your not, you should be thinking about how to make your OS better. Apples website is just like their OS smooth and clean, PERIOD.

A post I read here, a guy said Snow Leopard is more of an service pack, but one thing to point out Snow Leopard from Leopard is only $29 dollars. On that note, I downloaded the RC 1 for Windows 7 and it looks exactly like Vista, no changes, just a few stupid things they added like window preview and crap nobody really needs, especially when most of their time is spent looking up Errors on Microsoft's cluttered website. On that second note, it seems like Windows 7 is a service pack as well, except instead of $29 dollars it will be $119.99 for home premium, there is more money spent, aha, this is funny. Look at the Microsoft page at the new features of windows 7, (i.e.; "Favorite gadgets can go anywhere on your Windows 7 desktop.") mm sounds like Mac's dashboard feature to me which is apps on your screen, except without the bulky RAM hogging sidebar like vista AND 7 have. I could go on for days, but I believe this is proof enough.

So in conclusion, IMO, I would give $2,000 more for the same specs just to get the MAC!

I'm running a windows 98 with an upgrade to windows 2000 professional. The patches and updates had become larger than the OS itself... ..so, I off-loaded 'came-with' apps. and imported simple, stand-alones. The system is still working well in the world of web 2.0.

Brandon Grahamposted 149 days ago
Windows does not equal user friendly. Don't get me wrong I know how to use Windows just fine, but come on, OS X is so much simpler to use, that would mean user friendly. I mean come on Microsoft, the registry?, get rid of that crap and come up with something that people can understand like the very much neater .plist files that are used by OS X. I could give you many reason why OS X is better, days and days of it, let's go.

Macs are trouble-free; without Windoze headaches, you are free to focus on your work, not the latest time your computer froze up causing your work to get lost

A lot of verbiage in the comments after this poll. I wouldn't even waste time debating with Windows afficionados. You want to use Windows, fine! Enjoy your second-rate computing experience. Apple is flourishing on the strength of its high quality products. Quality sells itself. I've suffered on Windows machines for years. Macs are superior.

I won't rehash arguments that are undoubtedly below. I have used both platforms for decades, both are very capable, I prefer a Mac. They are more expensive but higher quality hardware and user experience. I would only recommend a PC if you want specific PC games that rely on specific hardware that can only be found in PCs. Otherwise, Mac is my choice. Especially if you just want to use the thing and not mess about constantly in the back end (though you can do that on a Mac if you want to,m as much as you can on Windows. You just don;t have to)

If you want a good quality laptop, Asus laptops will last longer than anything else. Yes they will last longer than a Mac (which would become obsolete anyway with the next MacBook refresh that happens every six months). Toshiba, and Sony will rank out the top three longest lasting laptops (not PCs, laptops, that includes MacBooks). You will also pay less for the higher quality. Macs are exorbitantly expensive for no really good reason.

I've got both. My G5 is nearly 5 years old and still humming. I'll get a Mac Pro next year and use my G5 as a backup machine probably for another 2 years, and even then I'll probably give it to someone else. The G5 has frozen 6 times. No crashes. No blue screens. No hardware failures. In that meantime, I'm on my 3rd PC now. *cough*
